The Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport, better known as Merida International Airport (code: MID), is located in the southern part of Merida. This is not the best area of town, so you won’t want to stay here; however, Downtown Merida is only 25 minutes away.
The airport is open 24 hours a day and has domestic and international flights. However, as it is a smaller airport, flights are sometimes limited. For this reason, some choose to fly to Cancun International Airport (code: CUN) and drive from there.

You have three options:
Get a private shuttle that offers transportation from the airport to your hotel or home. Then, for the return, you can book an Uber.
Get an airport taxi. This option usually is less expensive than a private shuttle.
Get a rental car. The airport has an extensive selection of rental companies. Remember to check our article about renting a car in Merida and Mexico. It will be better if you book your rental through Expedia or Discover Cars, so you don’t have to deal with the complex process of getting insurance for your rental car.
It’s illegal for Merida Uber drivers to do airport pick-ups, but some do it anyway. Others make you walk to the main road, off-airport property, for a legal pick-up. Avoid walking yourself and your luggage out to the main road for the pick-up. Also, if your Spanish isn’t so great, you might have difficulty communicating with the Uber driver to coordinate an off-site pick-up. Instead, use one of the three options we recommend above.
Ubers can drop you off at the airport

The official taxi fare from the airport to Downtown should be no more than $300 pesos ($15 USD). If they tell you it is more, just decline the service and get another taxi. If you go to the north, the fare will be higher but not for much.

The airport is small, and there is only one terminal. Within the terminal, there are Gate A and Gate B. Most domestic flights leave from Gate A, while Gate B is for international flights.
